EL ARCA's (East Los Angeles Remarkable Citizens' Association) commitment and passion is in providing care and program to the developmentally disabled population within the greater Los Angeles area. For over forty years, EL ARCA has been involved in a wide range of programs for a specialized population with severe developmental challenges which include, down syndrome, autism, mental retardation and cerebral palsy.

EL ARCA was first formed in 1965 by a small group of mothers who were in need of a support system and day program that would provide quality care for their developmentally disabled children. These mothers founded what was to become EL ARCA. INC. The programs initially organized were recreational in nature, such as outings, dances and summer day camp. They were supervised by parents who volunteered their time and were dedicated to their children and their quality of life. Then in 1969, with the help of professionals interested in their cause, they were able to become incorporated as a private non-profit organization.

Today, EL ARCA's Multipurpose Center operates an Adult Day Support Center (ADSC), Adult Development Center (ADC), Adult Day Health Center (ADHC), projected for 2011, and a Transportation Department. EL ARCA offers care, support and a secure and loving environment. EL ARCA's goal is to sustain a positive and incremental progress for consumers by advancing their skills, abilities and quality of life.
